New to Foreign Rights? DropCap Has You Covered.
Here’s how literary representation with DropCap works:
Our Network of Rights Buyers Spans the Globe
We pride ourselves on our personal relationships with international publishers and co-agents, and meet with them regularly at major international book fairs including Frankfurt, London, and Bologna.
While we believe that technology can enhance the rights-buying process, we know that software alone can never take the place of real, long-term relationships with buyers and face-to-face sales meetings.

We are always on the lookout for exceptional English language books to represent in the global marketplace.
Publishers we represent:
We are proud to work with some of the most innovative and influential publishers in the business. Typically, our clients are small and medium-sized publishers that don’t handle foreign rights internally.
The process of who to pitch, who to trust, what contract terms should be included, and how to track and collect royalties can be confusing. Publishers work with us because we take all that off their plates.

— John Köehler, Köehler Books
“As a book publisher, we love working with partners who can help us provide better services and sales for our authors. DropCap does just that with superb foreign rights and audio representation for our work. After several successful foreign rights deals they have secured on our behalf, I highly recommend them to other publishers—if you should be so lucky to be taken on board their agency.”
Authors we represent:
From the day we started DropCap Rights Agency, we knew we wanted to offer a rights program for self-published authors who didn’t have access to foreign rights licensing through a publishing house or literary agent.
That’s why we created DropCap Marketplace, a rights program made exclusively for independent authors and the unique challenges they face in the international licensing market.
Our innovative rights discovery platform helps our global buyers find books in specific genres and niche topics—and they are always searching for more amazing books to discover. Could yours be next?

— Joseph Nguyen, DropCap Indie Author
“As a newly self-published author, I had absolutely no idea who to trust or where to start to get my book published internationally. Then I met DropCap, who were some of the most genuine people I’ve met in the industry. I immediately knew they would be my biggest advocates by their love and passion for helping authors. They demystified the world of foreign rights and made the process unbelievably simple for me as an author where I don’t have to worry about anything other than doing more of what I love — writing. I cannot recommend DropCap highly enough for how much they’ve helped me on my journey of authoring.”
Don’t Believe Everything You Think, by Joseph Nguyen, translated into Hindi and Spanish. His book has sold in more than 37 languages and counting.

FAQs
How do you get your titles?
DropCap has partnerships with traditional publishers, indie presses, and successful self-published authors to help us discover titles for our ever-growing database.
Check with your publisher to see if they work with DropCap, and if they don’t, have them contact us.
We also created DropCap Marketplace as a way to scout great titles to represent.
How will I know if my book is a good fit for DropCap?
The genres that our international buyers are most interested in are: self-improvement, business and career, general fiction, and children’s books.
Keep in mind that if your book is specific to a region in the US or deals with a topic that is US-centered, it might not have global appeal.
This post on our blog goes into even more detail about what makes a book a great fit for representation at DropCap.
How do you secure foreign rights deals for the books you represent?
Through our outstanding agenting team, with a combined 30+ years experience in foreign book rights.
Additionally, we showcase our titles in several ways, including hand-pitching titles to our international partners and attending international book fairs.
If I already have a publishing contract, can I still work with DropCap?
Yes! DropCap is a unique literary agency specializing exclusively in foreign rights contracts with global book buyers.
These contracts can be on top of or in conjunction with any contracts you already have in place with your publisher.
Do you work with self-published authors?
We do! We work with traditional publishers, indie publishers, and self-published authors alike.
If you are a self-published author with a great book you would like to pursue foreign rights for, check out DropCap Marketplace.
Doesn’t my current publisher handle foreign rights for my book?
Probably not.
Foreign rights, also known as translation rights are a whole different sector of the publishing world, and many small to mid-sized publishers don’t have agents that are experienced in the global market.
That’s what makes DropCap so special.
What makes the foreign rights market unique in publishing?
Anyone who’s worked in publishing or written a book knows how complicated the industry can be.
Everything from production to distribution to marketing requires a wealth of knowledge, and that is just here in the US.
Foreign rights include understanding the global book market, the needs of each region, and the cultural know-how to reach a mutually beneficial contract agreement.
That’s what we specialize in at DropCap, and why we are leading rights literary agency in the world.
Do all of the books you represent acquire at least one foreign rights contract?
We could never promise an author or a publisher that their book will be picked up by our worldwide partners.
What we can promise is that with the team at DropCap you’ll have the best in the business actively marketing, pitching, and showcasing your titles, curating them very specifically to the buyers we know will be the most interested in licensing and publishing your work in their region.
